Welcome to Bradford Disability Sports Funding
Hamm Cycle Ride
In June 2012, six members of the University of Bradford's newly formed Cycling Club are joining other cyclists from the Bradford area to ride over 500 miles to Germany and back in the 11th Bradford to Hamm Charity Bike Ride. The event is in aid of Bradford Disability Sport & Leisure which provides sporting and leisure opportunities for hundreds of disabled people and their families across the Bradford district.
Jay Uphadyay, the club's President, Ian Linley the club's Vice-President, Adam Tasker, Liz Hough, Gareth Helliwell and Ajmal Rashid, club members, said "When we first saw the invitation to take part in this great challenge and who the money raised was for, we jumped at the chance to make a difference for people with disabilities in Bradford. Every time we hop on our bikes we appreciate how lucky we are to be able to do this sort of activity without a second thought, which we know isn't so easy for some of the people we'll be raising money for."
The group hope to raise over £3,000 between them to add to the overall fundraising effort, and hopefully the people of Bradford will support them in any way they can. The ride will be no mean feat especially as all 6 riders hope to join the 'Sport' group, covering between 65 and 103 miles a day (albeit on flatter roads than the hills of West Yorkshire). Training starts in earnest from November and the group is looking forward to the challenge.
Barry Thorne, Funding Officer for BDSL said "We are so proud to have members of Bradford University helping us in this way; they will join 36 riders and support staff on this journey to Hamm, Bradford twin town in Germany. This will be particularly important in the year of the Olympics being held in GB".
